It is cold and flu season in South Africa – many people are sick for weeks, despite (or maybe even because of) taking antibiotics. Here are 9 steps you can take to treat bronchitis at home and shorten the duration considerably. Personally I strongly believe that NAC (see point 3 below) is a great preventer. Since I have experienced its benefits, I take it every winter, and so far so good!:) I would add a 10th step to the list below, ie: taking daily high dose vitamin C as a […] Continue reading →

Since the lymphatic system does not have a heart to move lymph fluid through the body, it depends on various other bodily functions to achieve this. There are approximately 6 to 10 liters of lymph in the body, compared to 3.5 to 5 liters of blood. Muscle contraction and movement, breathing, the pulse of adjacent blood vessels, external stimulation like massage and dry skin brushing, sufficient hydration, fresh air and sunshine and a healthy, organic, mainly raw diet,  are all necessary […] Continue reading →

This recipe is super quick if you have a power blender or good food processor. You can shape it into balls or press it into a baking tray and cut it into squares or bars once set. It is healthy, so excellent for guilt free snacking or great to offer your guests as an after dinner treat with tea and coffee. Ingredients: 1 cup rolled oats (preferably organic, gluten free if necessary) 1 cup finely chopped, pitted dates 1/4 cup raw, organic cacao powder 1/2 cup almond butter (or other nut or […] Continue reading →

seed-crackers

These crackers are dead easy to prepare without any equipment and are a great stand-by for those snack attacks. They are delicious on their own, but also go with dips, humus, vegan cheeses,  as an accompaniment to soups or salads, cheeses and even with sweet toppings. They are nutrient dense, providing ample essential fatty acids and are very satisfying – so much better and healthier than plain old potato crisps. Ingredients 200 g sunflower seeds 60 g flax seeds (coarsely crushed in […] Continue reading →

I was told about this drink by a client who raved about it. When I tried it for the first time, I also started raving about it. This drink is very tasty, most refreshing on hot summer days (move over beer!) and detoxing at the same time, and it has virtually no calories and is sugar free – so much better than sodas, juices and cool-drinks laden with sugar and other harmful additives and colorants. And best of all:  it is made in a jiffy at a fraction of the cost of commercially […] Continue reading →

I discovered this recipe  in a health magazine. It took me all of 10 minutes to make, and after 2 hours in the freezer, the chocolates were ready to eat, although it was just as delicious to lick the bowl! Double (or triple) the quantity to have extra. You need to serve and eat them straight from the freezer, as they go soft quickly when left outside. This recipes makes about 12 – 14 individual chocolates. Ingredients  2 Tablespoons of raw cacao powder 2 Tablespoons Tahini (or any […] Continue reading →

Most people know by now, that drinking enough water is essential to our health, well-being and looks. But how do we know how much is enough, and how much is too much? Is there even a thing like drinking too much water? When asking people if they drink enough water, most say yes, but when asked how much they drink in a day on average, I get very mixed answers from 2  to 8 glasses or more a day. Here is a link to an article by Dr Mercola that sheds light on this question and also explains […] Continue reading →
