Gomasio – a fantastic Japanese condiment …

The tiny sesame seed contains high-powered nutrition. It is rich in calcium and a powerful nerve food.

Make Gomasio, a Japanese condiment, which greatly enhances the taste and nutritional value of almost any food. It is so quick and easy to make and you can sprinkle it on salads, potatoes, vegetables, soups, stews,  brown rice, sandwiches, dip bread into olive oil and then Gomasio (instead using of using butter) … your imagination is the limit. It is said to keep in a jar in the fridge for two months, however it is so tasty, that a batch will rarely last that long.

Ingredients

17 parts of sesame seeds (brown, white or black)

1 part of Himalaya salt  (for information on the benefits of Himalaya salt click here)

(eg: 17 teaspoons sesame seeds & 1 teaspoon salt, or for a larger batch 17 tablespoons sesame seeds & 1 tablespoon salt).

Method

In a dry pan or pot toast the seeds & salt on low heat, stirring until seeds start to pop (this happens within a few minutes).

Remove from heat & let cool.

Coarsley grind the mixture in a coffee grinder or blender on pulse.

Store in a glass jar in the fridge.
