Green Smoothies – part 4: Benefits for the Digestive System

In part 4 of the series on Green Smoothies we look at the benefits for the digestive system, followed again by recipes.

Optimising digestion and re-establishing a healthy intestinal flora

If Green Smoothies are taken daily, they create the ideal environment for a healthy intestinal flora. Most diseases disappear once the colon starts working properly again. The pre-requisite for a healthy digestion is a sufficient amount of good bacteria in the colon. If these are lacking unpleasant symptoms will be experienced, like bloating, constipation, diarrhoea, and often also  inflammation of the intestines. These all weaken the immune system and can increase the danger of various cancers.

Fibre and Chlorophyll for the Colon

Green Smoothies supply the body with all the necessary factors for a healthy digestion. Their high percentage of fibre cleanse the colon. Water-insoluble fibre bind water and toxins, activate the colon and ensure that the stools are leaving the colon speedily. They prevent chronic inflammation and lower cholesterol. Water-soluble fibre is diluted and absorbed into the cells, where they work in multi-faceted ways, eg: they prevent colon cancer very effectively.

Together with the concentrated power of chlorophyll Green Smoothies create an alkaline environment, which very effectively regenerates the mucous lining of the colon. Harmful bacteria like putrefactive bacteria or fungi are pushed back and the colon is colonised with healthy bacteria once again.

If you drink Green Smoothies regularly you will soon notice that your stools lose their unpleasant smell due to the strong cleansing and deodorising action of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is also highly effective against halitosis, badly healing and foul smelling wounds, to re-establish a healthy intestinal flora after taking antibiotics and for patients with a colo-stoma (artificial anus) it leads to a marked reduction of bad odour and bloating.

Do you have enough stomach acid?

It is important for our health to have enough stomach acid. By drinking Green Smoothies regularly the production of stomach acid improves, which is especially important for the absorption of proteins which are split into amino acids by the enzyme pepsin and hydrochloric acid. If this process is incomplete due to a lack of stomach acid, proteins move into the small and large intestines only partly split up and cause digestive problems due to putrefaction and fermentation. This places the immune system under great strain and can lead to allergies.

Raw foods can only be well digested with enough stomach acid present. Therefore Green Smoothies not only help to normalise and optimise digestion but also the absorption of valuable nutrients.
